During its meeting on July 24, Committee members discussed the issue of funding the defense and security sector for the period of the first half of 2014 and Government’s suggestions as to amendments to the Law “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2014”. Under the decision taken, the Committee pointed to inadmissibility of cutting funding of the defense and security sector. The Committee demands that the Verkhovna Rada should not agree with such an approach, suggested by the Parliament.
The Committee addressed the Cabinet of Ministers with a demand to provide the Verkhovna Rada with information regarding the use of a reserve fund of the Cabinet of Ministers, particularly, for the needs of Ukraine’s military organization. Committee members agreed with the expediency of elaboration of a separate bill on amendments to the State Budget in the part of funding the military organization.
The Committee considered the draft law on amendments to several laws of Ukraine regarding strengthening protection of children’s rights (Reg. No. 4100a) and recommended that the Verkhovna Rada should adopt it in the first reading and in entirety.
The Committee recommended that the Verkhovna Rada should adopt in the first reading and refine for the second reading the draft law on the fundamentals of Ukraine’s information safety (Reg. No. 4949).
The Committee discussed the draft law on amendments to the laws of Ukraine regarding fighting terrorism (Reg. No. 4226a) and recommended that the Verkhovna Rada should adopt it in the first reading and in entirety.
The Committee has also scrutinized the draft resolution on the transfer of firearms, armament and military equipment by the citizens of Ukraine to the military men of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine (Reg. No. 4092a) and recommended that the Verkhovna Rada should reject it.
